Welcome to Agility On The River
Last updated April 9th, 2012
Welcome to my home and my Lab's playground! At AOTR, I hope to offer a personal touch to agility classes that meets everyone's growing needs. Our home is nestled amongst tall aspens, maples and conifers on 8.9 acres with the river in the background...a lovely setting and only 30 mins. from the Cataraqui Town Centre!!
About Me?
I have been training my Labrador Retrievers in agility since 2000 and was a very proud part of the team of instructors at Luv-A-K9 Dog Training School from 2003 to 2006. Thanks to Lynn Ewart for giving me the opportunity to teach and expand the agility program there!!
In 2004, my husband Ken and I went searching for a new home with lots of room for our growing family of Labradors. We found a beautiful old home in Napanee which had a large flat field perfect for a new agility site! While I began clearing the land, I set up my agility equipment in the backyard (pictured below) and began teaching. I limited myself to private lessons and small workshops that year, but it was a start!!
In the summer of 2005, the new field was ready! I started my practices, classes and clinics with much success. Thank you to the new and many many returning students that made AOTR what it is today!! My main goal is to show all of my students the sheer joy and thrill of agility and to provide them with the foundation skills they need to be successful. Although I teach to compete, I do believe that agility should be experienced by everyone whether they continue with it or not!! If anything, it will be a fun and positive experience for both dog and handler young and old!
I have always been interested in becoming an Agility Association of Canada (AAC) judge. From my very first trial with Chimera, I always thought that judging would be my true calling. I enjoy designing courses and watching handlers run them. In the fall of 2007, the opportunity of becoming a judge presented itself. So after passing a lengthy exam, and judging a full trial with the guidance of a couple of awesome mentors, in May of 2008 I become an official judge of Starters and Advanced levels!!!! In July of 2010, I passed my final exam and I'm now a Masters Judge!
